How We Rate Our Advertisers

Our Independent Rating Methodology

At WildScores, our job is simple: help UK sports betting fans quickly compare bookmakers and find brands that deliver real, day‑to‑day value — without cutting corners on trust, safety and fairness.

Wild Scores Ratings Infographic — full breakdown of scoring categories and their weightings

To do that, we score the UK‑licensed sportsbooks we feature (including those who advertise with us) using a consistent, evidence‑led framework. It's built around what most bettors feel and notice in practice:

  • How easy it is to get from interest to a first deposit (without friction or confusion)
  • Value in the odds
  • Fast, predictable withdrawals
  • Good mobile experience
  • Clear terms, fair rules and strong safer‑gambling controls

Advertising does not buy a better score. Every brand is assessed using the same criteria and weightings.

Step 0: Eligibility checks

WildScores focuses on the UK‑licensed market. Before we score anything, a brand must pass these non‑negotiable eligibility checks:

  • Valid UK Gambling Commission licence (if not, the operator isn't rated on WildScores)
  • GAMSTOP participation (a key trust signal for GB‑licensed remote operators)
  • Clear complaints process and access to an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) route, where applicable

If a brand fails eligibility, we label it clearly as not eligible for a WildScores rating rather than giving it a low score.

Our weightings

We use a 100% weighted model so you can see exactly what matters most in our rating.

We've added an additional, performance‑based factor that reflects the real experience of WildScores users:

Visitor to First Time Depositor Ratio: 30% weighting

To keep the overall model balanced, the remaining categories have been adjusted to total 70% (rounded to the nearest 1%) and the full model totals 100%.

What each category means

1) Visitor to First Time Depositor Ratio (30%)

This measures how effectively a sportsbook turns WildScores visitors into first‑time depositors, after they choose to click through.

Why it matters:

  • It's a practical "real world" indicator of whether the sign‑up journey is smooth, the offer is understandable, and the brand inspires enough confidence for a customer to take the next step.
  • It can highlight hidden friction like confusing verification steps, unclear eligibility rules, technical issues, or a poor mobile onboarding flow.

What we look for:

  • Conversion performance vs other UK‑licensed sportsbooks we feature
  • Consistency over time, not just short spikes
  • Drop‑off indicators (where data is available): e.g., lots of click‑outs but few deposits can suggest friction or trust barriers

How we score it (in plain English):

We translate the ratio into a 0–10 score using a consistent benchmark (for example, ranking brands into percentiles against comparable operators).

Where data is limited (e.g., a brand is new on the site or sample sizes are too small), we'll either:

  • reduce confidence in the score, or
  • show "insufficient data" for this factor until results stabilise.

Privacy note:

This is assessed using aggregated performance data from our referral tracking (it's about patterns, not individuals). We don't use this to identify any user.

2) Odds & overall value (15%)

Odds & overall value

Value is still one of the biggest reasons bettors prefer one bookie over another.

What we score:

  • Price competitiveness on popular UK markets (e.g., football match odds, totals, BTTS; racing win/place; tennis match winner)
  • Margins/overround on common markets (objective and comparable)
  • Value‑add features that genuinely improve returns (where offered), such as price boosts or enhanced terms
  • Each‑way terms and how consistently rules are applied (racing)

What a top score looks like:

  • Strong prices across core sports, not just headline events
  • Consistent competitiveness, not occasional "marketing prices"

3) Withdrawals & payment experience (10%)

Withdrawals & payment experience

Nothing damages trust faster than withdrawals that feel slow, unpredictable or unclear.

What we score:

  • Withdrawal speed (request → approval → paid)
  • Payment method coverage and ease of use (debit card, bank transfer, e‑wallets and other available methods)
  • Fees and minimum withdrawal thresholds
  • How early and clearly verification (KYC) is explained
  • Clarity on withdrawal rules, including any restrictions linked to payment methods

What a top score looks like:

  • Fast and reliable payouts with straightforward rules and minimal surprises

4) Markets, sports coverage & bet types (9%)

Markets, sports coverage & bet types

A strong sportsbook isn't just about listing lots of sports — it's about depth where it matters.

What we score:

  • Breadth: sports that UK bettors actually use
  • Depth: number of markets per match/event, especially football and racing
  • Availability and quality of modern bet types (where offered): bet builders, handicaps, player markets, outrights, request‑a‑bet style options
  • Relevance of specials (useful options vs gimmicks)

What a top score looks like:

  • Strong coverage beyond the obvious leagues, with meaningful market depth

5) UX, speed & mobile app quality (9%)

UX, speed & mobile app quality

Most bettors are mobile‑first — so usability matters every day, not just on paper.

What we score:

  • Finding events quickly: navigation, search and filters
  • Bet slip clarity (edits, error messages, transparency on returns)
  • Performance and stability during peak moments (e.g., Saturday afternoons, major fixtures)
  • Basic accessibility and readability

What a top score looks like:

  • Fast, clean, reliable mobile experience with minimal friction

6) In‑play experience & live features (7%)

In-play experience & live features

In‑play betting is where a bookie's strengths (or weaknesses) show up immediately.

What we score:

  • In‑play market depth and update speed
  • Frequency of frustrating issues (where observed), such as excessive re‑pricing or unclear bet delays
  • Cash out availability and reliability (where offered)
  • Useful live add‑ons (where offered): streaming, live stats, timelines

What a top score looks like:

  • Smooth in‑play navigation, quick updates, and features that work when you need them

7) Promotions & rewards quality (and fairness) (6%)

Promotions & rewards quality

Promotions can add value — but in the UK they must also be clear, fair and responsible.

What we score:

  • Welcome offer clarity (how easy it is to understand and use correctly)
  • Ongoing value: boosts, acca perks, bet clubs, etc.
  • How transparent the key restrictions are (excluded markets, max stake, max winnings, time limits)
  • Whether terms are written in plain English, with no nasty surprises

What a top score looks like:

  • Offers that are easy to use as intended, with prominent, understandable terms

8) Trust, transparency & rules clarity (6%)

Trust, transparency & rules clarity

Even in a regulated market, trust varies — and it matters.

What we score:

  • Rules clarity: settlement, voids, palpables/obvious errors, each‑way rules, and any house rules that affect outcomes
  • Operator transparency: who runs the brand, what licence they hold, and how to complain
  • Security and account protection basics as part of the overall customer experience
  • Signposting of escalation routes when disputes aren't resolved internally

What a top score looks like:

  • Clear rules and a brand that is straightforward about who they are and how issues are handled

9) Safer gambling tools & customer control (5%)

Safer gambling tools & customer control

Safer gambling isn't a "nice to have" — it's a core part of a good UK sportsbook experience.

What we score:

  • Visibility and ease of setting limits (deposit limits, time‑outs, self‑exclusion)
  • Quality of player control tools and how easy they are to find
  • Clear signposting to support and self‑exclusion routes (including GAMSTOP)
  • Whether "friction" is applied in a sensible, respectful way when needed

What a top score looks like:

  • Tools that are easy to use and genuinely help customers stay in control

10) Customer support & issue resolution (3%)

Customer support & issue resolution

Support might not be needed every day — but when you need it, it's everything.

What we score:

  • Available channels (live chat, email, phone where offered) and hours
  • Speed to first response and time to resolution
  • Usefulness of answers (knowledgeable support vs scripted loops)
  • Clarity of the complaints process and escalation

What a top score looks like:

  • Quick, competent support that resolves issues without endless back‑and‑forth

How we calculate the overall score

Each category is scored on a 0–10 scale using a consistent rubric.

We then apply the weightings:

Overall score (0–100) = Σ (category score ÷ 10 × category weight)

Example:

If a sportsbook scores 8.0/10 for Odds & Value, it contributes: 8.0 ÷ 10 × 15 = 12.0 points towards the overall 100.

Our "common sense" guardrails

We also apply protective checks so a sportsbook can't rank highly on performance alone if the fundamentals aren't there.

For example:

  • If Trust or Safer Gambling performance is extremely poor, we may apply a cap to the overall score (even if odds or conversion performance is strong).

This keeps the ratings aligned with what UK bettors expect from a regulated market.

Transparency and commercial relationships

Some of the bookmakers featured on WildScores are advertisers and we may earn a commission if you click through and sign up.

What that doesn't mean:

  • A commercial relationship does not change the scoring rubric
  • We don't "sell" higher ratings
  • The same categories and weightings apply across the board

What it does mean:

  • You may see promoted placement in some areas of the site (clearly labelled), alongside our independent rating.

A final note on safer gambling

Sports betting should be fun — but it isn't risk‑free. Only gamble what you can afford to lose, and never chase losses. If gambling stops being enjoyable, consider taking a break and seeking support.

18+ only. Please gamble responsibly.
